Christmas Concert for Charles University

21. 12. 2021 - 7:00 PM

The Great Auditorium of Carolinum, Ovocný trh, Prague 1

Traditional Christmas concert for the Rector’s Office of Charles University, its employees, partners and guests.

This year, the Christmas Concert at the Karolinum will be a little more festive, as a new organ was installed in the Karolinum’s Great Hall this summer and our concert will be one of the first opportunities to hear the new instrument. Jan Kalfus, professor at the Prague Conservatory, will take on the ceremonial task and will present the instrument in three positions – as a liturgical instrument, as a solo concert instrument and as part of a larger ensemble.

The cycle of Old Bohemian Rorates, which will be heard at the beginning of the programme, is designed for choir with organ procession, followed by the organ concerto in F major by František Xaver Brixi and in the second half of the programme, of course, the famous Czech Christmas Mass “Hey, Master” by Ryba cannot be missed.
