21. 10. 2014 - 7:00 PM

Czech Museum of Music, Karmelitská 2/4, Prague 1

At the occasion of the “Year of Czech Music” Charles University Choir will produce a compiled evening, which outlines Antonín Dvořák’s journey by train to Bremen in September 1892. There he boarded a liner for New York to become the director of the New Conservatory of Music in New York. The music and the narration relates motives which had led Dvořák to going to America, as well as it speaks about memories of homeland. The main part is given to Mrs. Jeannette Thurber, one of the leading lights of the musical events in the United States at the end of the 19th century, who brought Dvořák to America and to Mr. Josef Kovařík – Czech American, who accompanied Dvořák on this journey. The musical part of the evening includes a selection of Dvořák’s most famous pieces – Slovanic Dances, Humoresque, Moravian Duets and others. This is to be the first concert of a new concert cycle of the Charles University Choir – Music and word.
